Simple FEMs aren’t as good as we thought: experiences developing EIDORS v3.3
نویسندگان
چکیده
In this paper, we 1: announce EIDORS version 3.3, and clarify the new features and changes to the software. Briefly, the new version includes: a) interfaces to FEM generation (distmesh, netgen) and dual model solvers, b) new algorithms (total variation, electrode movement solver, temporal solvers), c) a data repository with in vivo and simulated data and models, d) faster algorithms with better caching, and e) improved graphics and extensive tutorials. 2: we review the use of dual models in EIT, and the architecture to support their use in EIDORS. 3: we discuss accuracy limitations to the single-order tetrahedral finite element models that are used in much EIT research. We recommend that models be used of at least 10 elements (for 2D FEMs) and 10 elements (for 3D FEMs). FEM accuracy may be partially addressed using dual model solvers, for which EIDORS v3.3 provides support. Finite element meshes with electrode refinement in EIDORS
MOTIVATION: The accuracy of solutions to partial differential equations (PDE) obtained with the finite element method (FEM) depends on appropriate choice of domain discretization. The elements must be smaller than the smallest features which may occur in the solution. On the other hand, small elements increase the size of the FEM and hence the amount of computational time and memory required to...
متن کاملUses and abuses of EIDORS: an extensible software base for EIT.
EIDORS is an open source software suite for image reconstruction in electrical impedance tomography and diffuse optical tomography, designed to facilitate collaboration, testing and new research in these fields. This paper describes recent work to redesign the software structure in order to simplify its use and provide a uniform interface, permitting easier modification and customization. We de...

Hadoop is currently the large-scale data analysis ‘‘hammer’’ of choice, but there exist classes of algorithms that aren’t ‘‘nails’’ in the sense that they are not particularly amenable to the MapReduce programming model. To address this, researchers have proposed MapReduce extensions or alternative programming models in which these algorithms can be elegantly expressed. This article espouses a ...
متن کاملWorld Experiences of Inter-basin Water Transfer Projects and the Necessity of Developing Decision Making Criteria in Iran
When categorizing water management alternatives, to meet water needs, water transfer is seen as an option that tends to supply more water. Most developing countries where limited water resources are available with high spatiotemporal dispersion, favor this option. The numbers of such projects that have been proposed, implemented, and operated in recent years evidence the desirability of this al...
